How do you feel about the future of legal professions?

The installation encompassed a 2×2 matrix where anybody at the law school could place a circular sticker with the Modern Lawyers logo alongside two axes:

↔️ Do you feel ready (right) or not (left)?
↕️ Do you feel optimistic (top) or pessimistic (bottom)?

The installation hung at the foyer of the law school for less than two weeks, in which 100 stickers were placed. 13 were placed by my students at the end of a Legal Futures class, the rest (73) by anyone who walked past the installation. 14 stickers mysteriously disappeared, and I hope to see them on students’ laptops.

Analysis and limitations

Two key patterns emerged: (i) pessimists who do not feel ready, and (ii) optimists who feel moderately to strongly ready.

My students on average are slightly more optimistic than the sample average and have a neutral stance on feeling ready.

Of course this is not statistically representative, I do not know if someone gamed the data, or the ratio of students/faculty/others, and many other unknowns. But the installation did serve as an interesting conversation starter in our monumental 1930s building.
